We bought our very first house just over 3 years ago. We were so excited. Finally, we are first time home owners. We have our very first home. No more having to check in with the landlord every time we want to do anything like paint a wall, or redecorate. We’ve been renters for so long that we’ve never had to worry about home improvements. Now that we have our own home, all those choices are up to us. However, that also means the expense of home improvements are also up to us. Eeeeeks! Although, I think I’d take that over renting and landlords any day!
One of the first big improvements we’re going to need to make is the floors. The carpets are looking pretty rough. Living in the a northern state in the winter is rough on carpets. We drag in snow and mud. Plus one of the first things we did when we moved in to our new house was get a new puppy. Then 2 years later we got another new puppy! So you can imagine what condition our carpets are in now. Yes the puppy training stages but they also drag in snow and mud. Oh our poor carpets. We’ve always loved carpet flooring but I just don’t think it’s practical with pets and winters in Wisconsin.
Wood floors are absolutely beautiful but can be quite expensive if you’re doing your whole house. Laminate flooring has come a long way. I’ve been doing a little research and found this great laminate flooring buying guide. There are a lot of details that talk about how laminate is now quite durable and looks a lot like real wood flooring but is much more affordable. I think with pets and 4 kids, laminate might be the more practical way to go. I was also looking at other flooring sites and pictures. There are some really gorgeous laminate options. Gorgeous and low maintenance sounds great to me!
