My 1st Attempt at a Raised Bed Garden

I don’t know if I would classify myself as a gardener or one who loves to do anything of the sort but for some reason, I really wanted to try planting a garden. Having said that, I wanted the “easiest” garden there was. ;)

I purchased a raised bed garden that had 2 sections, some seed, dirt and started my first garden. I just planted the one section first. Thought I’d see how that went and then try the other section.

I planted carrots, snap peas and zucchini. Looks pretty good, right?!

It must have looked really good to my doggies too because this is what happened to my beautiful planted garden the next day:

The plastic is from the dirt bags. We laid down newspaper first and then kept the plastic from the bottom of the dirt bags to try to keep the weeds from sneaking in. Great plan but I think the dogs knew there was something under the dirt that needed to get dug up. :/

So I leveled it out the best I could, put up a fence and just hoped that I’d might just have rows of what I had planted vs seeds everywhere. The Garden was a little bit of a mess but it didn’t turn out too bad.  Even the fence didn’t keep out the little dog though so I had to continue to improve the fence to keep her out.

Eventually my little garden did grow! It’s just so fun watching what you’ve planted, grow. The kids like it too. My carrots are not ready yet but the snap peas and the zucchini are doing great. See the picture below of the first zucchini that I picked. I actually don’t know when they should be picked but this guy is huge and I was pretty sure he was ready. :D

First thing my daughter asked is if I could make zucchini cookies today. So that’s what we’ll be doing. I’m looking forward to finding more recipes too!

The only thing I will do for my next garden is not plant all of that together. The zucchini really needs more room and the snap peas kind of got squished in the middle. But it was a great first attempt and I’m having fun with my garden!

I love fresh veggies, I lol at your dogs. We used to keep a fairly small garden then we moved and our neighbor plants a garden so I tell him what I want and he plants it. His tomatoes did really well but the cucumbers and squash was not as good. I would love to try making zucchini bread. It sounds really good. I have never heard of the cookie before.

What a great little garden! Congrats on planting one and something actually growing. I do not have a green thumb, I leave all that to my Mother-in-Law. She plants anything we want to eat and we always have plenty of fresh veggies on hand. Keep it up!
