Questions For a Homeschooling Mom Vol. 5

Questions For a Homeschooling Mom Vol. 5

Last week in Vol. 4, we talked about homeschool curriculum. Continuing our series of Questions for a Homeschooling Mom, this week’s question is:

Why did you choose to Homeschool?

We choose to homeschool for several reasons. If you’ve been reading my homeschool series over the last few weeks, I think you probably have been discovering a few of them.

Going back to one of the questions we get most often – aren’t you worried about socialization. We don’t worry about our kids not having enough socialization but we worry about the wrong kind of socialization. Or who is influencing our children. In homeschool we can control the kinds of children that our children socialize with. That is one of the reasons we choose to homeschool.

Another reason we choose to homeschool is the curriculum. Being able to choose our own curriculum is very important because each child is different. Homeschooling allows us to be flexible to their needs and allows them to learn when they are ready and not when their classmates dictate.

Along with choosing our own curriculum, we also wanted the kids to have a Christian education. Yes, we could get this from a private school but even in a private school, we wouldn’t have the flexibility that homeschooing offers us.

Faith’s health has also reinforced our reason to homeschool. I have mentioned this before but she has Crohn’s disease. With all of her doctor’s appointments and hospitals stays, health concerns, etc. it’s been a blessing that we homeschool.

Not everyone has the resources to homeschool since a lot of families need both parents working in this economy. We have been very blessed to be able to homeschool our children. With all the benefits that it gives our children, we just feel that it would be a waste not to since we have the opportunity.

Hi! I’m here on the Alexa Hop!
I would have loved to homeschool my twins, but my health isn’t up to it. I actually read an article a few years ago that said that homeschooled kids are better psychologically adjusted than public school kids!
Who knows? Maybe in a couple of years I might switch to homeschooling :)
I +1′d this post and tweeted and liked it, too! Have a great week!

What a great idea for a series. It would be interesting to see these questions answered by a variety of homeschool moms and linked up where you could go from one to the other.

  3. I really like your reasons for homeschooling. I choose to not send my daughter to high school because of the influence of the other kids and also because of a bullying issue from last year which the school chose to overlook.

  5. Dianna Thomas says:

Homeschooling kids is not for everyone–we have two out of the six that we homeschool–One because of our beliefs, and traditional schools have problems with it–the other is one is ADD/ADAH– both are so bright that teachers can’t keep up with them- aqain tradition teaching methods don’t always work. I have to stay on my toes all the time–testing through the school has also been a challenge–Our school district doesn’t like to test the kids because if they fall short of what they expect –then it looks bad for the district-NO Xtra Government funds- but both test out 2x a yr,,above there school age–its just easier to go through Scottish Rights to have them tested.

Thanks for the info; it is nice to learn more about non-traditional alternatives as far as home schooling goes. I think some kids need something out of the norm, it’s good this exists and their is so much helpful info about it out there. Thanks again!
