So today is Meal Plan Monday but I’m going to skip the actual Meal Plan for the next two weeks because we’re going to be on vacation! Woohooo! Don’t worry though, if you’re looking for a meal plan, check out the linky on Mommy Needs Her Coffee.
What a great time though to talk about vacation meal planning. It doesn’t necessarily mean eating out for 3 meals a day for the entire week. We’d be really broke by the time we got back and probably several pounds heavier. Instead, depending on your travel, where you’re staying, etc., you can still plan ahead.
I’m not doing specific meal planning because I don’t plan on cooking a whole lot but I did think through some things. Like snacks. We’re taking the 4 kids on their first every plane ride including a 2 hour layover. So I went to Walmart yesterday and bought snacks that each can have in their carryon bags. Granola bars, cookies, crackers, etc. Things that I can put in sandwich bags and let them snack on as they get hungry. Nuts are another great option if your kids will eat them. Packed with protein, they’re more likely to keep the kids fuller and not as much of a sugar spike.
When we reach our destination in Florida, we’re staying in a town home with a full kitchen. We’ll take some time and shop when we get there for those easy prepared foods. Cereal, milk, bread, maybe some frozen pizzas, hot dogs, etc. You can certainly make really healthy choices as well. Whatever you’re used to eating or feel like preparing.
During the week, while at Disney, we’ll pack snacks and sandwiches as well. Disney is great…they allow you to bring in coolers. Our kids are bigger now so we won’t have an awesome stroller to put the cooler in but snacks, sandwiches and a couple of water bottles will be fine in a back pack.
Thinking these things through ahead of time will definitely save us a lot of money and keep us from hitting the drive through everyday for all 3 meals.
