At what age do you let your kids start cooking by themselves? I’ve been introducing my kids to cooking here and there. They all love to cook with me. Lately though, they’ve started to become more independent. I’ve been hearing a lot of “I can do it by myself.” Some things I don’t mind that they do on their own but keep in mind that I’m a control freak so giving up control is a hard thing for me.
Faith, who is 7, loves to make her own Ramen Noodles in the microwave now. That’s pretty basic. Microwaving probably isn’t a big deal. Although, if they overcook it and grab it they could get burned so I’m still a little leery of it. Am I just being over protective?
Lately, we’ve been making scrambled eggs in the microwave. Abbie, who is 9, thinks that’s the greatest thing. So she took it upon herself to make her own today. She put 3 eggs in the microwave for 3 minutes…without stirring at any point!! Eeeesh! I had to scrape the bowl to get the stuck on egg off of it! lol At least my microwave wasn’t covered with egg.
Bless her heart, she’s going to be a wonderful cook some day!
I suppose, it depends on the kid on how you teach them. What do you all think?
